![]() Those who reported that they gambled at least weekly (n=354, 9%) were classified as regular gamblers, and compared with the rest of the respondents (n=3396). 11% reported spending money on virtual gaming or participating in online betting or gambling. The most common activities were buying national lottery (‘lotto’) tickets (27%), private betting (21%) and buying scratchcards (20%), followed by playing on fruit machines (17%) and betting on dog races (9%). ![]() One-third of all respondents reported that they had participated in gambling activities in the previous 12 months, representing 28% of females and 40% of males. A sample of 3750 17-year olds completed computer- administered gambling questionnaires in research clinics and online. A large contemporary cohort study in South West England, the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), was used to investigate gambling behaviour and attitudes of teenagers in late adolescence.
